Dear Visitor,
Much has been made of the crime situation in urban Guyana, while I do not
trivialize the sad situation in the 5% of coastal Guyana where crime is at
deploreable levels - I do want to briefly re-assure you of First Nations
Vacations commitment to your security and explain why your adventure in our
rural 95% of unspoilt Guyana with us will be a uniquely unforgettable and
safe one.
Firstly, the area of Guyana with the crime problem extends from the capital
city of Georgetown - East to the village of Buxton. Timehri International
Airport is 25 miles South West of Georgetown - and Pakuri Arawak territory
(our main & most popular destination in northern Guyana) is 60 miles South
West of Georgetown; Pakuri is a 240 Square mile crime-free 1,000 person
Arawak Indian reservation where one out of every four adult males are either
former or current members of the Guyana Police Force or Army.
Secondly, we collect you at the airport and escort you overland to Pakuri
(our drivers and guides are all Amerindian ex-soldiers and policemen).
Thirdly, no robbery, rape or murder has ever been commited on Pakuri Arawak
Territory by any resident since the settlement was founded over 125 years
ago.
Fourthly, your security and ours is of paramount importance to us, whilst we
pride ourselves on offering a tailor-made experience of a lifetime - we will
not hesitate to decline any request that we deem to be a security risk -
night tours of Georgetown for example... are a definite NO!
In closing, I want to re-iterate that unless YOU want to either do an
escorted city tour of Georgetown by day or fly escorted 300 miles further
into the interior to the Rupununi from Ogle airstrip - you will never enter
the 'crime danger zone' of Guyana at any time during the course of your
adventure with us; and even in these two scenarios we will provide you with
the maximum security and guidance required for these activities.
Yours sincerely,
Damon Gerard Corrie
